this is what I just drew up. think it might work? yes, I know there's no controls or motor on it or anything else, just the basic idea

sounds good but i don't liek the holes, just keep it a staright belt and have the tension keep the ball in the slot. Witht he holes a ball might not fit right on the hole or anything. i dunno, i woudl just think that it woudl be more of a hassle to do. oh and will this marker be mobile? im assuming not

sure, the marker itself is probably quite small. the hopper is gonna be a bit big though. think backpack. I'm thinking I want at least 1000rd capacity. dump balls in, they feed to the gun.
yea, I'm not even sure if the holes would be necessary. with the belt on both sides, tension should make it work fine. I'd just have to grind down a section in the middle of the pulleys, so they don't smash the paint when the balls get pushed past the pulleys on the end. Actually, I have to do that anyway, but, just remembered to mention it here.
make that belt section nearly a foot long, and I think there's plenty of room for balls to fall in at very high feed rates :-)

got one ram in the mail yesterday, seems okay. but the guy forgot to send two, so, I have to get on his case. bleh. (edit) and right as I was typing it, I got an e-mail from the guy saying he was shipping another, so that's taken care of. anyway, so, I have the ram. Adam came over yesterday, we worked through the design on all the code, he greatly simplified it from what I had. We also messed with the optical interruptor sensor, and tried to read the value from the microcontroller. After a bit of fiddling, we managed to get it to work. Code just goes through a loop, and if the sensor is blocked, it lights a led, if it's clear, it turns the led off. simple, but it's enough to test, and prove that I can use simple digital I/O for the bolt position sensors, don't need to use anything analog. Gonna prolly have to use analog for the ball sensor, since I think a reflective one is actually gonna be better, and I can then tune it in code instead of having to adjust the position of the sensors on the gun to fine tune it. this means I need to learn to use the ADC. bleh. woohoo!

I can say with absolute assurance, without any doubt whatsoever, that the answer to your question about whether or not it'll be ready is:
maybe <ducks>
but on a more positive note, while bored and waiting for shayla to finish doing some work with an access database for homework, I wrote 80% of the code for the gun's microcontroller.
If I had the valves in front of me, I could start construction of the gun, they're really the only thing I still need to figure out.

I picked up a 3 ft or so long piece of 1"x1.25" aluminum bar stock at dixson metal processing today, so i have the base material of the gun body itself now. cost me a whopping $5, don't know if I can handle that kind of expenditure! :-P

Aaaand after adding the abovementioned 80% of code to the 20% I had already, I have a prototype written, missing the delay loops for dwell settings, but other than that solid. and it COMPILES! wheee!

uhh, I've been busy. but I'm working on it! sorta...
I did some trig to find out the angle to cut a piece to serve as a support for the ram. and I have the bar on a miter box ready to cut. And I started to cut it, but after about a minute of realizing the saw was dull, I gave up. that was 2 or 3 days ago.
I've been rather busy since. cleaning out the garage, then taking everything out of it to tear down all the drywall so we can put insulation in tomorrow. yeah fiberglass! :*(
it really, really sucks.
on a more positive note, I've pretty much figured out what valve I need for the ram. mac valves 44 or 45 series 4 way valve.
the firing valve is still up in the air, cause I'm still pretty clueless! whoohoo for me. current rough idea is to use a standard paintball style (poppet?) valve and have a solenoid move forward to hit it open.
meh.

put in a bid to buy the ram actuating valve today. 17 plus whatever for shipping. /me crosses fingers.
and I'm in the process of buying the material for the bolt
I also cut out the block for the body of the gun, and the block that the ram mounts to.
so, I've been at least *moderately* productive. woohoo!

buy some delrin A) its cheap, b) easy to work with on a lathe, c) if you break a ball you don't have to clean it out, it uses the paint as lube. d) e)profit!
