ok this is going to start out as a sort of stream of conscious sort of thing.
I found myself considering the possibility of a longer than one day paintball game, encompassing night fighting, camp fires, and raucous behavior, because that sounds like fun.
anyway, my initial thought is this. a 48 hour game is a little too long, it would be too hard to get that many people out tehre for that long without having someone die. however, a 36 hour game, for example, starting at 9am on a saturday, ending at 9pm on sunday, would seem to have a reasonable chance of success, and will give everyone involved a chance to recover( read: go home, crash and die), before their respective job requires their presence on monday morning bright and bushy tailed.
beyond that there are some other complications we have to over come as well. We have to figure out how to keep people fueled and active throughout the 36 hour period, perhaps running a series of games with breaks in the middle, work out time periods in which the game is evectively paused(more during the night, or longer ones, but the night would remain open during some points.)
we also have to consider a way to keep the game rolling for 36 hours. we've seen that respawning does not suffice, despite my initial impression that it would. we instead need to find a way to maintain the action for a longer time. so we need longer ranged objectives. even setting up the idea of MORE objectives is not necessarily a good idea, the game could still be over-run relatively quickly.
so those are my really basic first impressions of a longer-period paintball game requirements. now, on to what I expect a 36 hour paintball game would look like(remember, off the top of my head, subject to suggestions and discussion.)
rules/objectives:
-each team's base will act doubly as a resting area/respawn/deadbox area. no attacks will be allowed to happen on this area, there will be canopies for shade, water, food, coolers, tents for sleeping, perhaps even a couple camp fires for cooking. this place is off limits to the enemy team. NO exceptions. if you wander into this area you are automatically considered hit out and must return to your own dead-box. this area will be a paintball safe zone. NO shooting what-so-ever.
-the objective of the game I think can most simply be compared to taht of, say, bf1942, Day of Defeat, or Global Conquest. simply have a number of objectives that are counted at regular intervals(in the absence of refs, which is a possibility, we could count on the team captains/leadership to establish who owns what. more on this later). the team who held the most objectives by the end of the 36 hour period will be considered the winners.
-there will have to be regular breaks. this has to happen. so I propose we work them into the game itself, I will now outline a sort of schedule of events for a 36 hour period.
--Saturday 7am: arrival on-field, briefing of rules, explanation fo the game for those taht don't understand, other preliminaries(getting chronoed, etc.)
--Saturday 9am: GAME START!
--Saturday Noon: 1st GAME BREAK, no more paintball for an hour for lunch. before players leave their positions, captains roam field for initial score tally of positions.
--Saturday 1pm: GAME RESTARTS, each team starts in their base again, forced to recapture the points they had.(we could also have the team start in their choice of strategic point they held prior to the break, this would have neat implications during the night time.)
--Saturday 4pm: 2nd GAME BREAK, tally more points, dismiss for dinner. 2 hour break. don't forget to make sure you have enough of all that you need, paint air, etc.
--Saturday 6pm: GAME RESTARTS, same as last time.
--Saturday 10pm: GAME BREAK, tally score again, break for snacks/rest.
--Sunday 2am: NIGHT BATTLES, game resumes with night raids and other possibilities, this can be fun, this could also be dangerous. be careful.
--Sunday 5am: GAME BREAK, tally score again, get some sleep bitches!
--Sunday 9am: GAME RESTART, shoot some peoples bitches!
--Sunday Noon: GAME BREAK, lunch! tally!
--Sunday 1pm: GAME RESTART, shoot again!
--Sunday 4pm: GAME BREAK, dinner, tally!
--Sunday 6pm: GAME RESTART, shoot some more!
--Sunday 9pm: GAME END. there. 36 hours of paintball, ridiculous for anyone who stayed the entire time, but a blast I think. at this point there will be a quick rewards ceremony, perhaps MVP for both teams, winning team, best ref(if we have 'em), and others, whatever we want, and we'd need lots, 36 hours of paintball is a lot of money, and we want both winning and losing teams to be glad they came. there'd have to be a registration fee in order for us to buy us some prizes.
now, please add to these ideas, this is by no means a comprehensive game plan, simply my initial idea.
