Okay, I'm thinking about going into game design, so when it comes to awesome games I tend to get hugely psyched. With the introduction of Source, I forsee many a night making whatever the hell I want.
But today I just thought of an amazing concept that I can't put down.
I haven't had a chance to play with the SDK enough to know its impossibilities, but humor me.

Raptors vs. Rexes vs. whatever
I've always been a fan of melee in first-person shooters, as you all probably remember me owning you with the raptor in Turok 2.
Raptors would have more numbers per rex, would be faster, and have great eyesight. Rexes would be obviously bigger, stronger, and would be able to see scent-trails due to their HUGE FARKIN NOSE.
So there'll have to be a wind factor... *scribble*
I kind of want it to be a long duration for a game, instead of quick kill-kill-kill-die CS matches; and I don't know if the DoD capture-teh-flags would really work.
Whattya guys think? Do you have any other ideas? I think Pteranodons would be cool, too, since flying is one of the greatest things evar. Mebbe Anklyosaurs or a ceratopian? Marty'd like their defense tactics I'm sure...

in order for the game to take off, i really think you'd have to incorporate a range element, be it the "time travel human marine" or the alien "psyops warrior of dewm" if you want to elminate the weapon thing entirely, i don't know, sounds like it'd be a blast, though a game is tough to make where a major thing that helps a team is numbers...not generally a fun thing to play having yourself and a lot of your team horribly slaughtered eachtime yous ee one of the enemy..?
just thought i had right away, do with them as you wish :-D

Hmm... I guess there will definately have to be an AI... maybe an AI T-Rex, and have only clans of raptors fighting...
But yeah, no ranged weapons. Maybe short ranged attacks, like kicking dust or tail-whips...
Ooo, I like the idea of raptor vs raptor, that would solve the difference in power between them and the rex...

Well, you'd prolly need some ranged, but not firearms, definately. Something more suitable. And people wouldn't be very interested if it's only one thing, you need to have some manner of differences...different types of raptors, scouts - fighters - and so on. Some way to make there be more challenge in mastering things.

Well, I don't know about making classes out of them, but since I want it to be a lengthened game like NS I was thinking about making chapters. Then maybe do what Brainbred does and have your raptor level up as you go, unless you were seriously wounded and taken out of the fight. I don't like the idea of respawning for this game, so I have to figure out something to do when you're critically wounded and need to heal.
Aminals usually don't kill eachother, is my reasoning behind that.
Mainly, no classes, but stats instead. Like jumping, running, and damage.

Actions that you do a lot level up faster? You'd have to make running take stamina or something, if you did that. Same with jumping. But if you got better at it, it may be fun.

Oh no, I didn't mean like standard Ability stats. Jumping, Running, and Damage would be those stats. So say you put points into Jumping and Damage. Your jump-rake attack would be even more killer, but would take more stamina. Mebbe a pounce type attack? Running and Damage would be run-by attacks, etc.
Also thinking about feats, because I love feats. Tracking would be one, would kinda work like the waypoints in NS. The dust-kick would be another feat.
Uh. Oh yeah. I want to impliment Instinct into it somehow, like a message that would pop up if there's something a player wouldn't be able to notice. Like nearby water, or unnatural silence (lurking T-Rex). Maybe stating that there's some odd smell nearby that you don't recognize.
