Hi all, I asked some preliminary questions about having a warhammer 40k league this summer and was curious what the local interest would be. mostly it'd be just simple gaming, except with points assigned to who wins, by how much, and everything will be tallied.
it would be pretty simple to run, everyone interetsted would just have to check my website each week(which i would update) to see who they're playing, and what the mission would be. they'd play, the loser'd tell me the info, and at the end we'd work out who's 'best' at 40k at the beginning of august or something. if there's a sentiment for it, i could even ask for a fee and give out first second and third prizes, however, that'd leave some unnecessary strain on everyone to play exactly by the rules. i won't stop it, however, if everyone's willing...i'd also be willing to stand out and be a balanced scheduler, in order to keep things fair, it's simply a matter of what you all want.
Blough also mentioned a desire to create a campaign, story campaign, i believe, so if he could just comment about that, let me know what kind of terrain needs to be built, if anything, and perhaps start a bit of a discussion of story line?
anyway, just thought i'd put the idea out there.

Comment.
Seriously, I rather like the idea. I figure some woods and rocky terrain would be a good idea. Up til now all we do is play in urban/semi-urban areas. Lots and lots of battles are fought just on open plains - most of 'em, in fantasy settings. Ranks don't move so well through woods.
I was thinking a story campaign would be fun (although ideas on how to balance it are not coming to me quickly).
Also, a map campaign would be much fun. For Fantasy, there's the General's Compendium with detailed instructions, and for 40K I'm pretty sure there's some stuff on the website.
I'll get back once I have more and submit it for general approval.

actually, i'm going to have to agree with shane on this one, you can fight battles that don't actually hinge on winning or losing, the effect, let's say, a larger battle fought later on in the campaign. that's the thing that's intriguing about story line campaigns, you're not fighting even pointed games all the time, throws some extra oomph int here.
anyway, the point is, it doesn't have to be balanced per se, just create a story in which each side, over all, has a good chance of winning...know what i mean? :-)

kinda like what they did in the armeggeddon campaings back in the day, where certian battles impacted what woudl happen next... what we can do is if Army A manged to elimante at leats 500pts of Army B before they died then senario A happens in the next mission, otherwise senario B happens. That would help determine if the orks got throught the Space Marines with enough momentum to crush the imp guard or wether the space marine inflicted enough casualities to slow them down so that the imp guard can reinforce their lines. This is a really cool idea and it has my full support. Not too keen on the play for money thing, but play for fun defenatily. I don't know when you guys have this planned to start but i can't play untill spriing break and then in the summer.

perhaps we should specify, the league and the campaign are two separate entities, IF youw anted to play for money, i could balance the league as best i can for you. so it's two separate thigns we're discussing.

Campaign over league, for me. It's better to play for the story than for the gain. That's what warhammer is about, right?
....to murder millions mercilessly? ;D
